Nigerian Maritime Law Association

About Us

The Nigerian Maritime Law Association [NMLA] is the principal association of maritime lawyers and related professionals established since 1977. It is the Nigerian Chapter of the Comité Maritime Internationale [CMI] and one of the most respected organizations in the Nigerian maritime industry, with members cutting across the private, public and corporate sectors, including a number of government parastatals.

The Association is committed to the promotion of the study and practice of local and international maritime and mercantile laws with a view to promoting uniform standards and facilitating trade for Nigerians and developing Nigeria’s maritime industry. Through its rich faculty of members, circulation of statistical information and publications, the Association engages industry and governments in the formulation of maritime policy and legislation. It has over the years worked in synergy with the Federal Ministry of Transport and its key maritime parastatals, particularly the Nigerian Maritime Administration & Safety Agency, the Nigerian Ports Authority and Nigerian Shippers’ Council.
